Soft horizontal bands of sand, wheat, mauve and pale grey fill the center of this kilim, with one wide coral stripe adding a warm accent across the middle. A pale blue border surrounds the field, dotted with small stepped cross motifs in brown, coral and taupe, and a deeper olive brown frame closes the edges. The cross motifs are spaced evenly around all four sides, a couple of them picked out in coral near the top corner, and the open center feels almost like a painted color study framed on the floor.
Woven by hand in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims, it was rewoven into this calm, framed composition. At 10'4" x 13'6" (314 x 412 cm) and roughly 5 mm thick, it suits a large living room, a dining area for eight or a spacious bedroom. It weighs about 25 kg (55 lbs). The flat, pile-free weave keeps a low profile under doors, and an occasional spot clean is enough for most small spills.
The gentle palette works in Scandinavian, coastal, modern farmhouse and transitional interiors, and it brightens rooms with pale wood and linen upholstery. Because the field is so open, it also leaves room for patterned cushions or a bold coffee table. A coral cushion or terracotta vase would repeat the center stripe. A soft, welcoming rug with just enough color.
