An all-over pattern of interlocking ovals and diamonds covers this black and ivory kilim, each shape holding a smaller cross, eye or diamond motif at its center. The repeat is tight and even from edge to edge, so the rug reads almost like a tile floor or a printed textile, with the black ground and cream lines in crisp balance. Small ivory dots fill the spaces where the ovals meet, adding fine detail that shows up when you stand over it.
Handwoven in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims, it has been rewoven into this dense geometric design. It measures 10'2" x 13'1" (310 x 398 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, a size that works in a large living room, under a dining table for eight or in a king bedroom. It weighs about 23 kg (51 lbs). A rug pad will keep it square on smooth floors, and the dark ground hides everyday wear well.
The strong two-tone palette makes it a natural fit for modern, monochrome, global and art deco inspired rooms, and it pairs well with brass, marble and black lacquer. Plain white or cream upholstery gives the dense pattern space to breathe. A graphic floor that holds its own in a big space.
