An ivory center field is scattered with neat rows of small dots in rust red, soft brown and pale sage, set close together like a stitched texture. Around it runs a wide taupe border marked with groups of dark diagonal slashes, a graphic frame that gives the quiet center a clear edge. In the corners the slashes give way to short stacked bars, and along the sides they tilt in alternating directions, so the border has its own steady rhythm. The rust dots grow a little denser toward the middle of the field.

Woven by hand in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims, the rug was rewoven into this fresh pattern on the loom. It measures 10'4" x 14'0" (314 x 426 cm) and is about 5 mm thick. The proportions work well in a large living room, under a dining table for eight or across most of a king bedroom. It weighs about 25 kg (55 lbs). A pad underneath keeps it steady on wood floors, and a damp cloth takes care of small marks on the pale center.

Its light, neutral palette suits Scandinavian, Japandi, modern farmhouse and minimalist interiors, and the small touches of rust keep it from feeling flat. A terracotta lamp, cane chairs or a linen sofa in oatmeal would sit naturally with it. A relaxed, understated rug for bright, open rooms.
