Charcoal and brown blocks, bars and stepped rectangles are arranged symmetrically over a pale ivory and beige field on this kilim. Grey striations run through the light ground, and the dark shapes cluster into mirrored panels down the length of the rug, creating a structured layout with a slightly abstract, mid-century feel. The blocks are generous in scale, with thin ladder-like bars between them, so the design reads clearly even from across a large room.
It is handwoven in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims, rewoven here into a fresh geometric composition. The size is 10'2" x 13'9" (311 x 420 cm) and it is about 5 mm thick, so it works in a large living room, under a dining table for eight or in a king bedroom. At about 25 kg (55 lbs) it has real presence on the floor, yet the flat weave still lets doors and chairs move over it easily.
The neutral palette and graphic shapes make it a natural fit for modern, mid-century, minimalist and Japandi rooms. Black or bronze accents and natural wood will echo its darker blocks nicely. Try it under a low-slung sofa in oatmeal fabric, with a dark ceramic lamp to pick up the charcoal tones.
