10x14 Handwoven Blue Diamond Kilim Rug - 51707

Rows of small, softly outlined diamonds ripple across this kilim in blue, dusty pink, beige, grey and ivory, with a few touches of rust and red. The shapes blur into one another like light on water, and the shifting colors give the whole surface a gentle, shimmering effect rather than a hard-edged pattern. Brighter ivory diamonds gather in loose bands toward the lower half, while the top carries more of the deeper blue and rose, so the rug seems to lighten as your eye moves down it. There is no border, and the pattern runs right to the edges.

The rug was handwoven in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims and rewoven into this soft, abstract diamond design. At 9'9" x 13'11" (298 x 423 cm) and about 5 mm thick, it fits a large living room, a family room or under a dining table for eight. It weighs about 24 kg (53 lbs), and as a flatweave with no pile it lies flat, so chairs slide over it without catching. A regular vacuum with the beater bar switched off keeps it fresh.

Its muted pastel palette suits Scandinavian, coastal, bohemian and contemporary interiors, and it is easy to pair with both warm and cool furnishings. Try it with a pale grey sofa, whitewashed wood and a few blush cushions to pick up the pink. A quietly colorful rug with a lot of depth.
