Bold fan-shaped motifs, paired like bow ties, spread across a pale grey field in shades of cornflower blue, navy and ivory. Between them run thick bars in striped brown and grey that connect the motifs into a large-scale grid, and small blue squares sit at the center of each fan, giving the design a strong art deco flavor. Each fan is divided into fine ribs, so the shapes seem to open outward like folding paper.
It was handwoven in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims and rewoven into this graphic contemporary layout. At 10'4" x 13'8" (315 x 417 cm) and about 5 mm thick, it suits a large living room, an open dining area for eight or a spacious king bedroom. It weighs about 25 kg (55 lbs). Turning the rug end to end once or twice a year helps it wear evenly, especially in a sunny room.
The oversized pattern works well in art deco, mid-century, eclectic and modern interiors, and the blue tones look fresh against white walls and walnut furniture. A velvet sofa in navy or a brass floor lamp would lean into its deco character. A confident, playful statement for a large floor.
