10x14 Handwoven Blue Solid Kilim Rug - 51800

Grey-blue with a soft teal cast fills this kilim from edge to edge. There is no printed or woven motif, just fine horizontal ribbing and subtle bands of lighter and darker tone that come from the reclaimed wool. The effect is calm and slightly heathered, like a weathered painted surface. Faint vertical seams divide the field into broad panels, each a fraction lighter or deeper than its neighbor.

Woven by hand in Turkey, the rug was made from wool salvaged from older kilims and rewoven into this solid design. It measures 9'11" x 13'11" (303 x 425 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, slim enough to sit under furniture without lifting it. It suits a large living room, a dining area with a table for eight or a king bedroom. It weighs about 24 kg (53 lbs). A full-size rug pad keeps a plain rug of this size smooth, and regular vacuuming without the beater bar is enough to keep it clean.

The cool, muted color works in coastal, Scandinavian, minimalist and contemporary interiors and makes a good base for layering. Patterned cushions in rust or mustard, a pale oak table and white walls bring out its blue-green depth. A simple, restful rug for a large space.
