Wide bands of brick red, ivory and soft yellow diamond motifs alternate with sections of wavy gold, ivory and grey lines on a dark brown ground. The diamond bands echo traditional Anatolian kilim patterns, while the wavy sections feel loose and modern, almost like wood grain. The contrast between the two keeps the rug lively. Some diamond bands are set on a lighter beige ground and others on brown, and narrow zigzag rows edge several of them.
Woven by hand in Turkey, it was made from wool salvaged from older kilims and rewoven into this banded design. The rug measures 10'5" x 14'2" (318 x 432 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, a flat weave that sits neatly under furniture. It suits a large living room, a dining room with a table for eight or a king bedroom. It weighs about 26 kg (57 lbs). Its busy pattern hides everyday marks well, and occasional rotation keeps wear even.
The warm palette fits rustic, bohemian, Southwestern and eclectic interiors and looks good with leather, wood and woven baskets. In a cabin or lodge-style living room, it suits a stone fireplace, a chunky wood coffee table and wool throws. A rich, layered rug with plenty of character.
