10x14 Handwoven Brown Zigzag Kilim Rug - 51690

Wide zigzag bands in dark brown, cream and taupe run across the middle of this kilim, set inside a frame of patchwork panels in slate grey, faded blue, beige and chocolate brown. Thin stripes and stepped lines break up the panels, so the design reads like an abstract collage built around a strong central motif. The zigzags are gentle and broad rather than sharp, and a pale cream panel above and below them keeps the center bright.

Woven by hand in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims, it has been rewoven into this modern patchwork layout. It measures 10'4" x 13'9" (316 x 420 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, suited to a large living room, a dining space for eight or a spacious king bedroom. It weighs around 25 kg (55 lbs). Its flat weave lets chairs move freely at the table, and a non-slip pad keeps it in position.

The earthy palette and graphic shapes work well in mid-century, rustic modern, industrial and eclectic rooms, and they sit comfortably alongside leather and walnut. A cognac leather sofa placed at one end, with a dark coffee table over the zigzags, gives the room a clear center. A warm, structured piece with plenty of visual interest.
