Horizontal stripes in teal, sky blue, taupe, chocolate brown, soft grey and ivory run across the full width of this kilim. The bands vary in width and repeat loosely rather than in a strict sequence, and a few thin black lines add definition between the softer tones. The teal bands gather in a few wider groups along the length, so the blues read as a gentle pulse of color rather than a uniform stripe. The overall feel is relaxed and easy to live with.

Made by hand in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims and rewoven into this striped design, the rug measures 10'0" x 13'11" (306 x 423 cm). At about 5 mm thick it is a true flatweave that lies smooth under chairs and sofa legs. It fits well in a large living room, beneath a dining table for eight or in a spacious main bedroom. The rug weighs about 25 kg (55 lbs), and a regular pass with a suction-only vacuum is all it usually needs.

The mix of cool blues and earthy browns works in coastal, mid-century, eclectic and casual modern homes. Run the stripes across a narrow room to make it feel wider, and pair it with a tan leather sofa or a walnut coffee table. It is a cheerful but measured way to bring color into a large room.
