Long flowing lines run the full length of this kilim, swelling and narrowing so they form tall flame-like ogee shapes on an ivory ground. The lines are drawn in black, berry pink, slate blue, mustard, tan and grey, and they overlap in a loose, hand-drawn way that feels more like a painting than a repeat pattern. The bands are widest where they curve outward and pinch to a point where they cross, and the ivory spaces between them vary in size, which gives the whole composition a sense of rising, swaying movement.
It was woven by hand in Turkey using wool recovered from older kilims and rewoven into this contemporary design. At 10'0" x 14'5" (304 x 440 cm) and roughly 5 mm thick, it is a flat, easy-to-place rug for a large living room, an open-plan lounge or under a long dining table. It weighs about 25 kg (55 lbs). Keep it looking fresh with routine vacuuming on a suction-only setting, and blot any spills straight away so the ivory stays clean.
The mix of colors makes it a natural fit for eclectic, mid-century, bohemian and modern rooms, and it can pull together furniture in several different tones. A plum velvet sofa or slate blue chairs would draw out one strand of the pattern. Expect it to become the main talking point of the space.
