Rows of bold bow tie shapes run down the length of this long kilim, woven in rust brown, gold and sand over a mustard yellow ground. Smaller striped bars and pale centers sit between the larger shapes, and the motifs shift slightly in color from row to row, giving the pattern a lively, handmade rhythm. Some bow ties are solid rust, others are paler sand with flecks of brown, and a soft grey-green ground shows around the edges, so the gold reads warm without becoming loud.

It was made by hand in Turkey from reclaimed wool taken from older kilims and rewoven into this graphic layout. At 11'3" x 19'3" (343 x 588 cm) and roughly 5 mm thick, this extra-long size fits a great room, a long open-plan space or under a large dining table. At about 38 kg (84 lbs), it is a heavy piece that stays put, and its flat weave lets long benches and chairs slide easily.
