12x15 Handwoven Blue Oval Pattern Kilim Rug - 51713

Sixteen large ivory ovals are set in neat rows across a soft powder blue field, each shaped like a leaf or seed pod with a small dark navy dot at its heart. The outlines are slightly irregular, as is natural in a hand-woven piece, and the bold, simple repeat gives the rug a playful, graphic character. Inside each ivory shape sits a smaller blue oval that frames the dot, so every motif reads in three layers, and the ovals are arranged four by four with even spacing and no border around them.

Made by hand in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims, it has been rewoven into this modern motif. At 12'6" x 14'11" (380 x 454 cm) and about 5 mm thick, it is a generous size for great rooms, open-plan living areas or a large dining room. It weighs about 33 kg (73 lbs). As a flatweave without pile, it lies flat from edge to edge, and turning it every so often helps both ends wear at the same pace.

The fresh blue and ivory palette suits mid-century modern, Scandinavian, coastal and contemporary interiors, and it works nicely in a relaxed family space. White-painted furniture, light birch and a few navy accents would tie in with the dots. A cheerful, distinctive rug that stands out.
