12x15 Handwoven Taupe Solid Kilim Rug - 51798

Soft taupe, somewhere between warm grey and light brown, covers almost the whole surface of this kilim. The only accents are a pale blue-grey band near each end and faint vertical seams where the weave shifts slightly in tone. Fine horizontal ribbing gives the plain field a natural, textured look. Thin lighter threads run through the taupe, so up close it has a soft, heathered quality.

The rug was woven by hand in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims and rewoven into this understated design. It measures 11'11" x 14'10" (364 x 453 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, a slim profile for such a large piece. This oversized format suits a great room, an open-plan living and dining space or a large dining room. At about 31 kg (68 lbs) it is substantial, and a rug pad underneath will keep it flat and in place. Because there is no pile, dining chairs slide over it easily.

Its neutral tone fits minimalist, Japandi, contemporary and organic modern interiors, and it lets furniture and art stand out. A large sectional in cream or charcoal, with pale blue accents to pick up the end bands, sits well on it. A quiet, generous base for a big room.
