Tall flowing lines swell and narrow down the length of this oversized kilim, forming flame-like ogee shapes on an ivory ground. They are woven in black, plum, teal, dusty rose, rust and tan, and they overlap freely, so the design feels more like a large abstract painting than a strict repeat. Some bands blend gradually from one shade to the next, and there is no border, so the lines appear to keep moving past the edges.

The rug was handwoven in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims and rewoven into this contemporary pattern. It measures 13'9" x 20'10" (420 x 636 cm) and is about 5 mm thick. The extra-large size is meant for great rooms, open-plan living and dining areas or a large hall. It is substantial at about 51 kg (112 lbs), so plan on two people for placing it, and a full-size rug pad will keep such a large flatweave smooth and in position.

The varied palette fits eclectic, mid-century, modern and bohemian interiors, and it can tie together furniture in many colors. At this scale it can anchor a whole seating area and a dining table at once. A walnut sideboard, a teal velvet sofa or plum accents would each pick up a different strand of the design.
