Brick red bars cross a soft beige and taupe field at different heights and lengths, some running the full width and others stopping short or rising vertically from the lower half. Thin red lines echo the wider bars, and the beige ground carries faint stripes that keep it from looking flat. The effect is loose and architectural. The red itself varies from rust to deep brick within each bar, which gives the lines a slightly weathered, brushed look.
It was handwoven in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims and rewoven into this abstract composition. At 8'4" x 11'2" (254 x 340 cm) and about 5 mm thick, it lies flat and handles easily. Lay it in a living room, under a dining table for six or in a main bedroom. It weighs about 16 kg (35 lbs), light enough to lift and turn on your own. Blot spills quickly and give it a gentle vacuum without a rotating brush.
The muted red and sand palette suits modern, Japandi, Mediterranean and eclectic interiors and looks good with terracotta, linen and light wood. A low oak bench or a rust-colored armchair would pick up the vertical bars nicely. A relaxed abstract piece with a warm, earthy tone.
