A warm terracotta red field is framed by a border of small squares in black and ivory, set in a loose checkered line that runs around all four sides. A handful of extra squares float in the center, placed slightly off balance, which keeps the simple design playful and modern. The border squares alternate black and ivory with gaps between them, and the field itself is lightly streaked with darker and paler rust, so the red has a soft, sunbaked texture rather than a flat finish.
It was woven by hand in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims and rewoven into this minimal geometric pattern. At 9'5" x 11'5" (287 x 348 cm) and roughly 5 mm thick, it suits a living room, a dining room for six to eight or a primary bedroom. It weighs about 19 kg (42 lbs). A non-slip pad keeps it settled on hard floors, and vacuuming with suction only is gentle on the flat weave.
The earthy red suits mid-century, Southwestern, bohemian and modern rustic interiors, and it pairs well with walnut, leather and black accents. Its open field also leaves room for patterned cushions. Cream boucle chairs and a black side table would echo the border squares. A warm, graphic rug with plenty of character.
