9x12 Handwoven Beige and Black Abstract Kilim Rug - 51750

Sand beige and black shapes cluster in the center of this kilim, cut into stripes, half circles, stepped blocks and angled bars that interlock like a modernist collage. The composition sits on a slate blue ground that frames it on all sides, giving the design the feel of a large graphic print. Two large circles, one above the other, are sliced by horizontal bars, and triangles and zigzag edges break out toward the top, so the central form looks almost like an abstract figure or a stacked sculpture.

The rug was handwoven in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims and rewoven into this abstract layout. At 9'1" x 11'10" (278 x 360 cm) and about 5 mm thick, it suits a living room, a study or the space under a dining table for six to eight. It weighs about 19 kg (42 lbs). On the floor, a rug pad helps keep it square, and regular vacuuming without the rotating brush protects the crisp edges of the shapes.
