9x12 Handwoven Beige Solid Kilim Rug - 51785

At first glance this kilim reads as a plain greige rug, a soft mix of beige and grey with no strong pattern. Look closer and faint tone-on-tone rectangles appear in the field, along with fine horizontal ribbing from the weave. The quiet surface lets furniture and other textiles take the lead. The rectangles sit in a loose column and are only a shade warmer than the ground, and a thin darker line edges the long sides.

It was made by hand in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims and rewoven into this minimal design. The rug measures 8'11" x 11'11" (271 x 363 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, so it lies flat and is easy to lift and turn. It suits a living room, a dining space with a table for six to eight or a calm main bedroom. It weighs about 19 kg (42 lbs). Being a pile-free flatweave, it lets doors and chairs pass over smoothly, and occasional spot cleaning keeps the light tone fresh.

Neutral and understated, it works in minimalist, Japandi, Scandinavian and contemporary rooms and layers well under a smaller patterned rug. It also pairs well with charcoal upholstery, black metal and pale oak. A soft foundation for a peaceful space.
