Small ivory cross shapes repeat in a tight lattice across a near-black field, creating a pattern that looks almost like tiles. Around the field runs a wide cobalt blue border filled with a dark zigzag, and a thin ivory line separates the two. The strong blue frame gives the rug a crisp, defined edge. The crosses have softly rounded arms and sit in offset rows, so the dark ground between them forms its own small star shapes.
The rug was woven by hand in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims, then rewoven into this design. It measures 9'4" x 11'11" (285 x 362 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, a flat profile that sits easily under furniture. Use it in a living room, under a dining table for six to eight or beneath a queen or king bed. It weighs about 20 kg (44 lbs). Vacuum it regularly with the beater bar off, and turn it end to end every few months for even wear.
The blue, black and ivory palette suits modern, Moroccan inspired, transitional and eclectic rooms. Brass lamps, a cobalt or ivory sofa and dark wood pieces bring out its border and field in equal measure. A bold patterned rug that still reads as tidy and structured.
