Navy and light sky blue squares alternate across this flatweave in a classic checkerboard, set edge to edge and framed by a narrow navy border. The lighter squares carry soft streaks of tone, which keeps the crisp grid from feeling too rigid. The squares are generous in scale, roughly a dozen rows from end to end, so the pattern stays clear and calm even from across the room.

Woven by hand in Turkey from wool salvaged from older kilims, it was rewoven into this simple checkered design. At 9'0" x 11'11" (274 x 362 cm) and about 5 mm thick, it suits a living room, a family room or a dining table for six to eight. It weighs about 19 kg (42 lbs). Because a flatweave has no pile, dining chairs slide over it without catching, and a thin rug pad underneath will keep it from shifting.

The two-tone blue palette works in coastal, Scandinavian, modern and playful interiors, and it looks fresh with white furniture and light oak. Its pattern is also forgiving of everyday traffic. Navy cushions or a white sofa pick up its two tones nicely. In a child's room or playroom, the even grid also gives a cheerful, orderly base for toys and low furniture.
