Even horizontal stripes of deep cobalt blue and light beige run from one end of this flatweave to the other. The blue bands are slightly wider than the beige ones and carry gentle tonal variation, and a thin blue edge finishes the long sides. It is a crisp, classic stripe with a fresh, nautical feel. There are around fifteen blue bands in all, and the beige stripes show faint grey flecks that soften the contrast up close.
Made by hand in Turkey from wool reclaimed from older kilims, it has been rewoven into this simple stripe. The rug measures 9'2" x 11'11" (280 x 363 cm) and is about 5 mm thick, a low profile that is easy to vacuum and move. It suits a living room, a dining area for six to eight or a main bedroom. It weighs about 19 kg (42 lbs). Without any pile, dining chairs slide in and out smoothly, and a rug pad underneath keeps the stripes squared to the room.
The blue and beige palette works in coastal, Scandinavian, transitional and casual modern spaces. White painted furniture, rope or rattan accents and a few navy cushions complete a breezy look. An easy, bright rug that never feels fussy.
